One Direction was a British-Irish pop boy band formed in 2010 on the seventh series of the British television series The X Factor. The group consisted of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. One Direction's debut single, "What Makes You Beautiful", was released in September 2011 and topped the charts in several countries. The band's debut album, Up All Night, was released in November 2011 and was a commercial success, selling over 4 million copies worldwide. One Direction released four more albums, Take Me Home (2012),Midnight Memories (2013),Four (2014),and Made in the A.M. (2015),all of which were commercial successes. The band also embarked on four world tours, the Up All Night Tour (2011-2012),the Take Me Home Tour (2013),the Where We Are Tour (2014),and the On the Road Again Tour (2015). In March 2015, Zayn Malik left the band. One Direction continued as a four-piece until their hiatus in January 2016.

The X Factor

One Direction was formed on the seventh series of the British television series The X Factor in 2010. The group was initially put together by the show's judges, Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, and Nicole Scherzinger. Cowell later said that he had put the group together because he thought they had "something special". One Direction finished third in the competition, but they were quickly signed to a record deal with Cowell's record label, Syco Music.
